Question:

Do I really need a guitar pick to play better?

I have a problem when playing guitars with a pick, I can't get a grip on them. I'm used to playing just by using my fingernails as picks. When I use a pick either, strumming or plucking, my strumming hands are uncomfortable, especially when I do a palm-mute. So do I really need a pick?

  1. Everyone can play with a pick.

    You just need to practice.

It's not hard, you just need to get use to it.

Search some videos on youtube about palmuting. And check http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ , search for palmmuting.

    Good luck.

  2. Hi SCD

Classical guitar players are incredible clean and quick and only use their finger nails.

The advantage of that technique is for speed and cleanness. A good bass player uses his 3 right-hand finger as picks.

So go ahead. You are not the only onoe. I combine pick and the rest of the free fingers to do fast riff. I support you ....

  3. It depends. If you feel better by using a guitar pick, then use it. But if you feel uncomfortable, then don't use it. It depends on so many people. I use both. But usually I play better by using a guitar pick. It's all up to you.

  4. Well, if you're better with just using your fingers on the strings, don't use a pick. And palm-muting is kind of tricky, so I wouldn't worry about it(:
