I failed inspection because of this? My car is about 9 years old and has 127,000 miles. What are the symptoms of this if any?

  1. YES - if the inspector told you so.

The signs are brake fluid leakage on the wheel cylinder, and the rotor or drum and the pads or shoes.  It basically will cause that wheel to brake less efficiently.  In extreme cases you will also get fluid on the ground and brake failure could result.

  2. A wheel cylinder is a horizontally placed dual hydraulic part that expands the drum brake shoes during braking to stop the wheel. They are inexpensive and vital to four wheel braking. The reason the wheel cylinder most likely failed is moisture in the brake fluid.

At this time it would be smart to have the brake fluid flushed from all the lines, calipers, wheel cylinders and master cylinder.

  3. You don't want to buy one? What are you saving your money for... the future? Because that's not going to happen. You can either put the money towards a wheel cylinder or a burial plot. Your choice.

The wheel cylinder is an extremely important part of your braking system. It stops your car. If it fails, (I've had one fail) you WILL NOT be able to stop the car. I ended up throwing the car into park in order to stop.

And knowing you have a bad wheel cylinder and you continue to drive the car makes you libel for any accidents. If someone is killed, you can be charged with murder.

Don't play games. GET IT FIXED.

  4. Fix it.There are two things on a car I never take a chance on,they are tires and brakes.

  5. it's only important for stopping your car as it's part of the braking system

as long as you have a bat chute and a bat anchor

    your Batmobile should be fine

    ********

otherwise - I would replace it since you want to pass inspection

and your life is in the balance

  6. when a wheel cylinder starts to leak, it is most likely the cups in the cylinder are worn out. if yours are leaking, you either have to replace them or get a overhaul kit and put new cups in them, but for all they cost, it is better to just buy new ones.

  7. fluid running down the inside of the wheel or tire or your brake grabbing when applying the brakes.

  8. if that all  get it done

wheel cyl are about 15 to 35 bucks

    1/2 hour to change

    save ur self some trouble
