I called up an auto shop near me and they told me since they woudl need to replace the shaft, it would need to be aligned. Do I really have to? Im barely going to be able to afford paying for the repalcement cv boot, do I really need to pay for an alignment?

  1. No but I sure wish they still made CV boots like they used to for VW's you could buy them with a zipper, then just load em up with grease.

  2. Its common to replace the whole shaft. These days you can buy the shaft just as cheaply as the boot kit as an added bonus with the shaft is you get 2 new joints as well as everything properly greased and. the whole axle shaft will have a warrenty on it. Most cases you dont need to have the car aligned, there are some cars that do need it after removing and replacing the shaft. have them fix the shaft and when you can afford it have the car aligned.

  3. If the boot has a small tear replace it.

If it is torn wide open and not packed with grease, replace the CV axle.

You do not need a wheel alignment.

    Find another repair shop.

  4. NO.Changing the axle will not in any way change your alignment settings.Find another shop that will tell you the truth.
