  1. ask a doctor? or someone that knows a lot about it?

  2. The choice is yours, but think of the possible alternative if you don't have the injections.

And I suspect that if you avoid them, your insurance will be invalidated.

You are taking out insurance, I hope.

  3. You only need the likes of malaria jabs if you intend to spend anytime in the jungle areas, I have been living in Saigon for over 13 years and I have never heard of anyone getting malaria within the expat community. As was stated in a previous reply, you can get all the shots you need over here for a fraction of the cost you will pay in Europe or USA. There are plenty of medical facilities here should you need them, with expat and local doctors that have been trained in the US, UK & Australia, so there is no problem for any help you might need. While you are traveling through Cambodia I would certainly take some bug spray with you, but remember to keep the size of the spray at a maximum of 100ml or you will lose it when you go through security at the airport on your way over here. Have fun!!!!

  4. yep you do.Ignore at your peril. You're going to the bother of flying out to se asia and you can't be arsed to have a couple of jabs.Sorry but get a grip.Ian Dury had mild polio and was crippled for life and died young, ask his family about it.I dont mean to get on my high horse but you are mad

  5. There is no shots for Malaria but you start taking pills a week in advance and a week after your trip. There are no shot requirements, but I get all the shots I can there is so many diseases here, by all means get Hepatics A&B there is no shots for C. I never take malaria pills and travel and stay on the Mekong delta for weeks.

  6. yep, typhoid, maleria, tetenus and hep.

  7. i'm going for my jabs tomorrow for both those places so i can let ya know tomorrow what my doctors give me if you ask again in the afternoon

  8. I traveled around that area for 2 years and the only thing I bothered with was Malairia, I took Lariam(Mefloquine) for 2 weeks, it gave me bad guts so I stopped, the main thing is be careful what you eat and drink to start with, slowley you stomach will get used to the things there and you can almost live like the locals, 1 seriouse thing though Mossies are different you wont get used to that, cover up 1 hour before and after sunrise and sunset, thats the main problem time, and a net at night.  One good thing to eat to prevent them is lots of Garlic and Chillies.  Just be careful and you will have a fantastic time, I did, also dont stay on the ''tourist path'' get off it a bit, hard work sometimes but by God its worth it.

Dont take to much notice of western doctors they will advise you to take and have a million things, remember they get paid the more they give out, IE Rabies, it was back then 6 jabs, to prevent it, get bitten and its exactly the same treatment with or without the jabs, I got told by a Thai doctor that in some cases the inoculations can make it worse.

    Enjoy it.

  9. NO...but bring sun block lotion and bug spray..

I'm going to both these countries this July too.

    So don't worry. Have fun/

  10. I have been in S. E. Asia for 8 months now.  I did your basic round of shots before I left the states.  Most of them are absolutely worthless.  Also,  You can get the same shots here for 1/10th the cost.   You should have tetanus for sure but the others don't really apply here.  The Malaria stuff is really hateful.  Makes you psychotic and very uncomfortable.  I'll post this now and get back to you in a couple of minutes.  I'll pull out my passport and tell you the shots that I took.  be right back~

OK  they gave me Typhoid, Tetanus and hepatitis a and b.  The hepatitis shots are a good thing because they last forever and you can no longer get hepatitis for life.  Tetanus is just common sense.  The typhoid shots are c**p.  If you take any kind of antibiotic the typhoid is wiped out.  so its not very effective.

Go with the flow on this.  you really don't have to worry much about this stuff here.  its just like being in Texas be careful and if you feel bad you go to the doctor.  PS doctor visit, $3 bucks!!!

  11. No.  You could just die instead.

  12. h**l yea or u can spend ur vaction in a crowed and poor hospital while veryone else has fun.

  13. take a metal detector as well! as there are still a lot of mines

  14. You do need shots, talk to your local health department they should know. I was going to go to Thailand in 1979 I got them in both arms.
