Do I still have hope in figure skating?..?

I have started ice skating last May 2007. I've been in love with figure skating ever since I was 4 but my parents wanted me to focus on studies first. I seldom skate because the nearest ice rink is 1-2 hours away from our house, so I've only skated five times since May 2007. I've learned how to glide and do a backward swizzle though they do not get me a coach. I really want to pursue a career in a figure skating, but I think my case is hopeless. Add the fact that I'm already turning 15 this October. Do I still have hope in figure skating?

  1. Whats gone is gone n u can do nothing bout it. If it gives u pleasure, it would do if you go for it as a career. Just follow your heart.

  2. If you work very hard you can possibly pursue a career in maybe coaching figure skating, though it will be tough because of your situation. Roller skating is fairly different from ice skating, I would suggest working with your parents to see what you can do in skating. I think maybe taking group lessons or doing some other type of learn to skate program in your free time and making skating your hobby is the best idea. Good luck!

  3. If you could go skating more often you might have a better chance. Johnny Wier didn't begin skating till he was 12. I don't know if you could make it to the Olympics (but you never know). Even if you don't you still have a very good shot at becoming a coach, and if you coach you could end up making a decent amount of money. My coaches cost $84 an hour. I think that you should also focus on your studies though. It's important to have a plan B.  Still you should try to skate more often and give it a try. Oh,and there is good money in figure skating. Brian Boitano got paid 3 milion for skating in 10 events. Anyway, good luck!

  4. i know nothing about figure skating, but i'm going to have to say no.   The people who make a career out of this started when they were very young, and they practice 8hrs a day.  Not to say that you couldn't be good though.  I'm sure you could compete in tournaments, just not on a professional level.  But what do i know.

  5. Well lets see... You should get a better career then figure skating, I don't think skating will get you much money. Yeah the best thing you can do to keep figure skating in your life is keep on going at it, try out for a different career.

  6. Roller skating is way different than Ice Skating but let me tell you this. Don't let anyone tell you what you CAN'T do...It does'nt matter how old you are. I started skating late and I'm now a coach. Most people don't really have careers in skating unless you were to coach or do ice shows. Both of these options are very viable ones though. I think if you stick with it and start really skating you will be great! Good Luck and never give up!

  7. i doubt you'll have a 'career' in skating, since most of the stars and world champions are your age now and they are competing at very high levels.  If you don't have a coach and are just doing swizzles and skate rarely....i doubt a career will happen.
