Do I wear too much make-up?

Question

14 and I wear

foundation on t-Zone and powder foundation on top of it

metallic eye-shadow, usually gold and brown

dark brown mascara

a tad of blush on apples of cheeks

a bit of shimmer powder over it

a bit of bronzer in hollows of cheeks

I have dark brown hair, brown eyes, and olive skin....thanks

sounds like more than i would wear, but you're not me.  the most important thing i would think is for you to consider the colors. don't wear bold colors on both your eyes and lips.  keep it neutral and pick one thing to stand out, like your eyes or lips.  i don't think anyone really needs a lot of makeup, but it's so fun to experiment with when you're young.  have fun!

That does sound like quite a bit considering that you are only 14. I am a hairstylist and work at a place that also sells make up. I see a lot of girls your age and there is a fine line between looking good and looking like you have on too much! Maybe you  can pull it off though because you have the dark hair and eyes, but is it necessary?

yes. i think thats way too much make up especially for a 14 year old. i mean who are you trying to impress? foundations fine but do you really need the extra layer on top of it? eye shadows okay too and mascara. blush is cool but do you SERIOUSLY need the shimmer powder AND the bronzor over it? does that kinda defeat the purpose of the blush? covering it up? and whats wrong with JUST lipstick? why do you have to put lip gloss with it?

some of the things you wear really arent necessary, they kinda defeat the purpose of some of the things you put them on top of.

I applaud you for making your own make-up rules! It really shouldn't matter what other people say as long as you feel that you look good. After all, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - and you are the beholder.

I don't bother too much with make-up everyday since it takes me forever, but I usually only use your amount of makeup only at night, for going out. If you think you look beautiful with that much makeup, then it should not matter what other people think.

Ok if you wear that everyday then you are definitely going over the top.  Especially since you are only 14 you could probably just get away with foundation, mascara, eyeshadow and blush and some lipstick or gloss (not both).  You should save anything more dramatic for when you go out to parties and stuff because 1. you need stronger makeup when you go out at night and 2. people are going to notice you when you put a bit more effort in on special occasions and comment on your looks.  If you look like you have too much make-up on all the time then no one is going to say anything when you try to look nice...it can go the other way and if someone sees you without makeup (e.g on camp) they will be horrified at the change.  LESS IS MORE!

its not about how many products you use is about how much of it you put on. even the most natural looking celebs more often than not have a thousand products on their face. If you apply it right its fine, you just don't want to look like you've piled it on just to make yourself look older, like so many young people do now.

Well from what I hear, you wear quite a lot haha i'm sorry. I have a friend who wears TONS of make up and the worst part is, she doesn't know how to use it properly! Have you ever seen the misery business music video by paramore? Remember the part where Haley takes the paper towel and mushes it against the other girls face? There was SO much make up smeared onto that towel. And that's what I want to do to my friend lol yeah, i know it's a little mean. But as long as you are using it properly and in moderation, it shouldn't be a problem =]
