I am going to be a Sophomore in High school soon and I also have a job at a restaurant as a dishwasher seven days a week (first job LOL).

School gets out at 3:45 and my sister will drive me (I still have my permit) to work at 4:00 then pick me up at 10:00. I also have these hours on weekends too.

I need to save up money for college and my car so I have to work alot.

But do you think I will be able to balance work and school (keep in mind I am in all high level classes)?

  1. I think you pretty much answered the question yourself. You are clearly stating you THINK you work to much, and it seems you are just asking for people to agree.. which I completely agree. You are going to over work your body, and not enjoy what little time of childhood you have left. Of course I'm not saying don't work. But at the maximum I would say you should work is 4-5 days a week. 5 is also pretty high but if you need the money.

If this job doesnt pay as much as you could make, then I would leave. Try retail, or even fast food might pay more depending on where you live. You could also try to be a waiter/waitress

  2. I think that's too much for a high school student.  Also keep in mind that colleges like to see students who have participated in extra-curricular activities.  With that kind of schedule, you aren't going to have time for any of that and that can hurt your chances of being accepted to a good school.  I know you need to save up money, but you have the rest of your life to work.  I would work 4-10 maybe three times a week.  You need to remember that you'll also have homework and if you don't have time to do it, your grades will not be good and that will hurt your chances even more of getting into college.

  3. The only time your leaving for homework is study hall and weekends ... you will burn out with this schedule .  Six hours a day seven days a week = 42 hours ... that's full time ... there is no way you can balance work and school ... and what about time to be a kid ... you need to get a part time job a few evenings a week and learn how to live a little .

  4. Wow, you want to work 6 hours after school every day, including the weekends?  When will you have time to do your homework and study?  When will you have time to hang out with your friends?  Yeah, I think it is too much.  Take a job that is only a couple days a week, or on the weekends only.  I understand that you need the money, but it's important to keep a good balance in life to stay healthy.

  5. That's up to you.if you start feeling like you are falling alseep in class from staying up late doin homework&studying or like you're tired all the time then cut back your hours to only 4 or 5 days a week.I don't know of anyone, not even an adult, that works every single day of the week.
