Question:

Do Irish universities charge tuition fees?

I am hopeing to go to study at UCD in ireland and was wondering what kind of fees I would have to pay. I have heard that unlike England Ireland does not charge tuition fees, is this true? Also does this only apply for Irish or to anyone who lives in a country which is a member of the EU?

Any help will this would be appreciated.

p.s, I am english and am 20 years old. xx

  1. I do not know where you have heard this information from, you will find that all higher-educational instiutions, regardless of country, charge tuition fees and UCD (Ireland) is no exception.

    UCD (Ireland) has a two-tier tuition system, one for EU students and one for non-EU students.

    However, unlike in England, Scotland and Wales, the Irish government does pay tuition fees to the University on behalf of EU students registered at UCD for full-time undergraduate degree programmes (of minimum two years' duration) who meet all the following criteria:

    - You must have no previous third level attendance and,

    - You must have been resident in an EU Member State for three of the five years prior to entry to university.

    If you meet the above criteria, then yes there will be no tuition fee for you to study at UCD (Ireland) - see the first link.

    However if you do not, then you will pay the EU-resident tuition which does vary depending on what your major is (see 2nd link below)
