  1. As you know, American pizzas at most pizza places are very different than Italian style pizzas.  Most Italians I've met (mostly in the restaurant industry) find the fast food style pizzas (pizza hut, papa johns, etc) universally disgusting.  The Italians I knew living in NYC liked NYC style pizzas but as an American food rather than anything reminiscent of their homeland.

There are some spots for authentic Italian style pizzas with the biggest differences between American and Italian centering on the heat of the ovens.  Because of the very high heat and differences in ingredients, Italian style tends to be almost like a crispy bread rather than the doughy American version.

As far as Pizza being Greek, I'd love to see a source on it.  I've heard this in the past, but it seems like an urban myth.

  2. Probably not.  Pizza here in the US:  it usually too cheesy, too many toppings....

Italian pizza from Italy is usually much lighter with only 1-2 toppings.  They prefer fresher ingredients and less tomato sauce.  It's usually baked in a wood fire oven and crispy.  It's fantastic.

  3. from my understanding, not really.  the culture tends to believe in quality > quantity.  in America we tend to put a ton of low quality toppings on out pizzas and use sauces that are more processed instead of fresh.

  4. They enjoy both but lean towards their blend of toppings. Both genres are offered and available. Pizza came from the Greeks anyway. The Italians commercialized it in the 21st century.

  5. No they only like their own and they are very good at it.

  6. Some do and some don't. It depends on the individual not nationality.
