Do Japanese always have big dinners including rice?

I'm Chinese and I eat rice almost every friggin day. I not that sure about the j**s but I think they also eat rice almost every day. Just look at Sushis, almost all Sushis have rice. And I have yet to see any Japanese restaurant that do not serve any rice at all.

Basically, Rice is the staple food in Japanese cuisine, as in most of China. The same as with the proverbial potatoes in Irish stereotypes and bread through most of continental Europe.

Whatever else you may eat, you will have some of it too.

It's the food that defines food. If you're going to make a food metaphor, in Europe you say "bread", in Japan you say "rice".

The Japanese word for cooked rice, "gohan", is synonymous with "meal".

i know rice and soup are present in nearly every meal, i'm not sure about the size of the meal, though.

Actually the Japanese eat a lot of bean paste. I think china eats more rice.

Of course they have rice, that is the substinence of most asian culture's meals. Having large portions per person though, definately not.
