Do Jerusalem Artichokes/Sunchokes (Helianthus tuberosus) flower in the UK?

Thanks birdsx61. They do grow very well here too. Mine are currently 3m +/- tall and it's mid summer here, but I've read conflicting information that they don't flower here because flowering is triggered by short day length and frosts here kill the foliage before the day length is short enough. Other reports suggest that they do flower here. I wondered if anyone has experience of growing them in the UK. I'm 52 degrees North.

  1. The info I found says that they need 120 days frost free and median temps of 60 to 80 F. If you can grow sunflowers you should have no problem with sunchokes. They are a weed here in SoCal and one of my faves. Very easy.
