Do Jewish people deny that Jesus lived?

If not, then do you see him as a cult leader? Do Jewish people only read the Old Testament, or only parts of it?

  1. No, I don't think so.  They just know he was not the Messiah.

Jews do not believe that Jesus is the Moshiach (Messiah) because the following have not been fulfilled (at one time on Earth - no second chances!):* The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26)

    * Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance. (Isaiah 2:4)

    * The whole world will worship the One God of Israel (Isaiah 2:17)

    * He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via King Solomon (1 Chron. 22:8-10)

    * The Moshiach will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with "fear of God" (Isaiah 11:2)

    * Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4)

    * Knowledge of God will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9)

    * He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10)

    * All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12)

    * Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8)

    * There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8)

    * All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19)

    * The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11)

    * He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 52:7)

    * Nations will end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah 52:13-53:5)

    * The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23)

    * The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55)

    * Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9)

    * The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming many of the suspended mitzvot

    * He will then perfect the entire world to serve God together (Zephaniah 3:9)

    * Jews will know the Torah without Study (Jeremiah 31:33)

    * He will give you all the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4)

    * He will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful (Isaiah 51:3, Amos 9:13-15, Ezekiel 36:29-30, Isaiah 11:6-9).

  2. Not necessarily, they just don't think he was the messiah.

  3. This Jew believes the entire story was created at the time of the destruction of the 2nd Temple (70 CE).  Both Jews and Christians were in a dilemma -- without the Temple, sacrifice was no longer possible.

Jews replaced sacrifice with prayer and, to this day, pray at the times designated for sacrifice.

Christians used all the stories of prophecy from the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) to create one perfect human being who became the final human sacrifice, while at the same time negating all those pesky Jewish laws.

    .

  4. I've read both parts and from my background, he was an ordinary Jewish guy with radical ideas.

As for believing he lived, I don't think so. There's no evidence of almost anything in the Bible within the real world.

  5. Most Jewish people, generally, have no issue with the idea of a historical Jesus.

its really that it is just of no relevance to us.

  6. No, they see him as an ordinary jewish guy.  They read the entire old testament.

  7. This Jew does. Also we do not read the Christian OT we read the Tanakh

  8. Nope, they don't deny that he lived.

  9. No :)

In all honesty, we don't refer to Jesus at all. He doesn't come up in conversation, and he plays no role in Judaism.

If you were to ask 100 Jews, you'd probably get 100 different opinions! Many of us think he was just another young, charismatic Jewish preacher; there were many and they all claimed to be the 'maschiach' (messiah).

I think Jesus was well meaning, and I'm aware he died a practising Jew. Everything he taught was already present in Judaism, so he didn't add anything to it.

There are probably some Jews who think Jesus never existed. I can totally understand why, as there's no reference to him in the work of any of the contemporary writers of his time.

Remember, there WAS no 'old testament' when Jesus lived. The OT is the Church edited, Church organised, Church MIStranslated version OF the Jewish TANAKH.

Jesus read the Tanakh.  Jews today read and study the Tanakh, of which the Torah is a part. No Jews read the OT.

    EDIT

I just have to correct a few earlier posts here:

1 - Jesus is not a prophet in Judaism.  Many people seem to think he was, and I suspect they are thinking of Islam, as Muslims do indeed revere Jesus as a prophet.

2 - no Jews speak 'glowingly' about Jesus for the simple reason that we don't talk about him, PERIOD!

Do Christians speak 'glowingly' of Mohammed?

    No?

    Same logic.

  10. I'm not sure they care that much, though they'll probably admit to a historical basis for the story of Jesus.

They just point out the very obvious fact that he was not their messiah, as he did not fulfill their prophecies.

  11. No

  12. Jewish think he wasn't a messiah. The old testament is read jewish but this is not the only book they follow. They don't see him as a prophet either (muslims do). They certainly don't deny his existence but they disregard the importance that Christianism attributes him. I don't understand your question about cult leader. Nevertheless anyone -even a Jew-in the world can notice his influence in western world, even though they don't believe in him.

  13. Dear child, a lot of Jewish people have read both Testaments.

They see him as a false messiah, a person who claimed to be something he wasn't.

Which is not a viewpoint I share, but there you are.

  14. No...we don't deny he existed but here's the important thing.  We don't care if he existed or not.  Have a nice day.

  15. No, he was a great prophet to them, yes they hace all the OT

  16. they do not deny that he lived. but they do not give him the credit of being the "messiah" or "son of god."

they read basically the old testiment, which is put into their holy book called 'torah.'

  17. hard to speak for all of them,  but I was working at a yeshiva once,  they don't even want you to mention his name

  18. They do not call it the "Old Testament" it is called the written Torah. They also have many other books that the Christians did NOT adopt That is part of why Christian morals floundered for a while: according to the Oral Torah (which Jesus would have known and taught from) a good Jew does not go around stoning everyone to death in the streets, they follow the REST of the law that tells about witnesses and trials.

Jesus was just one of many of the wise men that taught the way of Hillel the Elder. Unfortunately, despite so many teaching words of peace, several violent rebellions broke out causing war with Rome and the destruction of the Jewish homeland.

  19. I don't believe there is enough evidence to prove his existence. But this is my personal opinion. Judaism as a whole does not have an opinion on him, because he is irrelevant to us. We don't read the Old Testament at all. We read the whole Jewish Tanakh, which may or may not be called the Old Testament by Xians.
