  1. they are much better then CRT, they don't have the screen refresh rate like the CRTs did which is what was so hard on your eyes though i'm sure its still not the best for them but its a big improvement

  2. Staring at anything continuously is bad for your eyes, whether it is a CRT, LCD or a newspaper.

A badly set up CRT can flicker, which will give you a headache, but it does not emit anything that is bad for your eyes.

LCDs do produce less EM radiation than CRTs, but since a CRT produces way less radiation than a cell phone or a light bulb that does not mean much.

When you stare at something you blink less and are not varying the muscles that focus your eyes.  Over time this leads to tired and strained eyes.  So, every few minutes look away from the screen, close your eyes for a few seconds.

The same thing applies to you.  If you sit still your muscles tense up in one position.  So every hour or so you should get up and move around.

  3. Yes, but not nearly as much as the old CRTs

  4. No, the LCD screens are better for your eyes (there is still going to be some damage, but really looking at anything that gives off light is damaging to your eyes to some extent).

CRT screens are bad because they give off a form of radiation that is more harmful than the light would be by itself.

LCD screens do not give off that radiation, and the form of light that they give off is much less harmful than the CRT screen's light.

  5. staring at any screen for hours on end without taking a break will strain your eyes

  6. There is no known research that says any computer monitor, CRT or LCD can actually damage your eyes. What does happen, however, is eye strain. Especially if you spend most of the day in front of the computer. The muscle in the eye that controls focusing can be overworked. This can cause headaches, fatigue and difficulty focusing. Be sure to work in good lighting conditions and take breaks to rest your eyes!
