Do LP records have separate left and right channels or is it the same thing coming out of each speaker?

It depends on when they were released and how they were recorded.  

Most early LPs had only 1 channel.  Later ones had 2 channels.  You can hear it on LPs like Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd) and the song Black Water (Doobie Brothers).
