Do Latin countries have real armies?

You never hear about ANY true military forces from Central or South American countries other than in coups or police state actions.

    and back to the question... that deserves the actual answer that everyone gave.

    Like everyone else has already said, but ill say it anyway, yes, Latin countries do, they aren't as well funded, or as well trained, but they do there job when they need to.

  3. Regrettably, some of the armies there are paramilitary armies, and especially in Colombia, there are more paramilitary people than regular military people, thanks to that famous group called FARC.

    I think (only speculating) that 62 percent of the countries in Latin America have paramilitary armies thanks to the School of The Americas in Fort Benning (USA). It is alleged that this school focuses on counterinsurgency tactics used by paramilitaries.

    You are right though, most Americans never here about military from smaller countrys.

  6. Argentina had a fairly deacent military but were still defeated by the Brits at the Faukilin Islands. Most Central and South American.countrys dont have the training the NATO and former Soviets

    have.

  8. Yes they do.  They are smaller and not as well funded as the American troops.

    The US also trains Latin American military officials in the infamous School of the Americas at Ft. Benning.
