Do Lawyers get payments from insurance companies to get down the settlement payment?

  1. Yes, if the lawyers to which you refer work for the insurance company.


  2. NO.  They actually get a cut of the payout, so it's in THEIR best interest, to get the highest payout they possibly can.

  4. Insurance companies do not "pay off" plaintiff's attorneys.  However, most insurance companies do have staff counsel which are salaried employees.  

    I assume that you were not happy with a recent settlement.  Sounds as if your attorney was not competent or you simply had unrealistic expectations.

  5. There may be some that do, doesn't seem legal to me.

    A lawyer gets a % of the settlement, they have every interest to get as much as possible because it means more money for them too.
