User103443, I get them dirt cheap off of ebay. They are always brand new too.

I pay about 15 bucks for two led bulbs bright enough to light a small bathroom.

  1. I have some LED s that do not appear to accomplish the expected improvement when compared to CFLs.

This could be because the LEDs are using a step down transformer to provide 4.5 volts. I know that LEDs powered by a 4.2 volt battery does give far more light per Watt than does a 12 volt CFL.

So I have to say one has to confirm this on a case by case basis. Even a great idea can be badly implemented.

  2. yesssss..... Led light bulbs are extraordinary long life, low energy usage, and ability to stand up to huge amounts of cycling on and off.

  3. Get them, assuming you are getting what you expect.

You already have good information from contributors.  It is likely the price will come down as production goes up and less expensive processes and materials are developed.  That's the usual history of semiconductor electronics.

Meanwhile, at current prices, its still a worth it in the long run.  I have flashlights with them and, except for higher intensity (so far), I won't buy other kinds any more.

  4. that is not the right definition, LEDs are more efficient, they convert a higher percentage of electrical energy into visible light, and do it better than any other light source I know of.

  5. yes, they do, LED only uses 1 watt and puts out about 100-250 watts

  6. yes

i wish i had some but i got compact flouresnts :D

  7. YES.

  8. yes, they do because incandesent light are glowing with heat that is turned into light, but the led lights are energy efficient beacause they have the ability to stay bright and unlike incandesents, they do not require more electricity to glow with heat, in short, leds cans save more money by using and requiring less electricity.

p.s notice how the leds are white?

  9. LED's are more efficient but much more expensive to purchase.  They are estimated to last 25-30 years though and over time make up for the initial expense.

                                            Incandescent CFL LED

    Life Span (in hours) 1,500 10,000 60,000

    Watts                                       60 14 6

    Cost                                  $1.345 $2.98 $54.95

    KWh over 60k hours 3,600 840 360

    Electricity Cost

    @ $0.23 per KWh $821.72 $191.73 $82.17

    Bulbs needed 60k hours 40 6 1

    Equivalent 60k hour

    bulb expense         $53.80 $17.88 $54.95

    Total 60,000 Hour

    Lighting Spend       $875.52 $209.61 $137.12

  10. no incandescents save the most
