  1. I do. Did you know that he started the whole loopback and multitrack thing. And I have some of he and Mary Ford's recordings.

  2. Obviously you don't since he's still alive and playing at Iridium once a week.

  3. I wish I owned a Les Paul....he pretty much invented the idea of the electric guitar (or so I have heard)....one of the last people to play with Les Paul before he died was Slash...possibly the most famous Les Paul fan...unless I have been misinformed and the dudes not dead yet or that never actually happened...anyways....

  4. I would hope so. I would hope all musicians know who Les Paul IS. He's still alive.

  5. I don't believe it is a pre-requisite of ownership.

Do people who own Ford's know who he was?

  6. some do and some don't?

the fakers just go like OMG LES PAUL GUITARS ARE SOO COOL! IMA GET MYSELF A CUSTOM GIBSON LES PAUL!

    well yeah

and that's most of the people i know.

  7. Apparently you don't know either... because you said "was" and Les Paul IS STILL ALIVE and living in FLORIDA.

The whole story about Les Paul and his invention of the electric guitar is an interesting and absorbing one.  What most players don't know is, the original electric guitar was a PIECE OF 4X4 LUMBER with the strings mounted on it and a crystal mic taped to one end.  Les played that original electric piece of lumber for about a year before he added the wings to it to make it look more like a guitar... but ALL the electric guitars made today, if they are a SOLID BODY... are STILL nothing more than a PIECE OF LUMBER WITH STRINGS.

That is one reason that real guitar players prefer the hollow bodied acoustic guitars.. the TONE is better.  You can get real voicing with a hollow body... a solid body plays every note the same and at the same level.. so it takes all the creativity out of the subtle tones a real guitar is capable of.

BTW... Les Paul has ALWAYS been the one guitar player that I have admired... and I STILL have a hard time playing "Waiting for the Sunshine" like Les can... my old, arthritic fingers just can't move that fast any longer.

  8. no but i bet he got beat up cuz of the name "les"

  9. yeah i know who he is.  i'd say that the majority don't though.

  10. I own a Les Paul Classic and all I know is that whoever he was.......he makes one h**l of a guitar.
