  1. Sort of.  They HEAVILY process your raw guitar signal so there is the chance that you will lose the tonal nuances that make your guitar unique.  Remember that line 6 amps (and other similar amps/modellers) require TONS of parameter tweaking to get the right sound.  I would recommend getting a simple tube amp unless you want to really get into programming.  On the other hand, if you like synths and drum machines and the like, then a line 6 might be good for you since you are familiar with all the technical stuff.  So the question is: do you want to spend time playing guitar or programming your amp?   If you get a line 6 and dont spend the time programming, your guitar tone will suck.

  2. Yes they absolutely do.  I think Line 6 are the worst amps in my opinion.  A kid I used to jam with had a roommate that owned a line 6 amp.  No exaggeration, my 400 dollar Mexican Strat with a Seymour Duncan humbucker in the bridge sounded EXACTLY like his 3,500 dollar PRS going through the Line 6.  It just way over processes the sound and strips away any of the guitar's natural tone.  They're a bad deal.
