Do MRI Scanners have any of the radiation hazards that a CT Scanner would ?

I would like to know if Electro Magnetic Resonance Imaging produces any radiation or has any adverse effects on people over time ?

  1. Since the pictures are generated in a relatively low magnetic field (0.5-2 Tesla), there is no radiation  danger similar to  CT.

    If there is contrast agent used (e.g Gadolinium), there can be some side effects of the contrast agent, but not of the MRI itself.


  2. None to speak of. The magnetic field will, however, produce "credit carditis," wiping clean the magnetic strips on your bank cards, so leave them at a safe distance.

  3. an MRI scan is quite different from a CT scanner, and is, theoretically, much less hazardous.
