Do Madden 09 Roster Updates affect gameplay off of xbox live? And where can they be downloaded?

I realize that you can download rosters in Madden 09 to affect xbox live games but what about your regular "play now" gameplay on the madden menu? Do they affect that too?

to get the rosters, go on live and select ouick play or ranked or whatever, it asks you to automatically update your rosters, once you do that quit the live session and go to save the rosters and there you have it
