Question:

Do Mainland Chinese feel a cultural kinship when watching Japanese films and TV series?

Coming from a Taiwanese family and growing up in both Taiwan and Hong Kong, I always experience a cultural familiarity when watching Japanese TV series and films. We seem to share similar backgrounds, similar environments and similar mannerisms. I can relate to what the characters are experiencing, much more than when I am watching American productions (and also Mainland Chinese productions, actually).

I am just wondering if our Mainland Chinese tongbao have the same feeling? Or is daily life in Mainland China different to such an extent that you perceive Japanese dramas as being foreign and unfamiliar?

Curious ^^
