i am not sure about the mayans, but the aztecs did eat the body parts of their deceased relatives as part of a ritual family cannibalism to bring themselves closer to their dead loved ones.

Mayans no longer take the entrails directly from tourists.

They are able to by human entrails directly from major supermarkets with little tags that say...&quot;these are the entrails of your enemy.

From what I understand the entrails labeled US Republican politicians are very popular although I believe the popularity is mostly symbolic. I know I plan on getting me some of Republican ones as soon as I go to Nicaragua.

The culture of the Mayans, Aztecs and Incas were all very similar.  All cultures of mesoamerica are believed to have practiced human sacrifice, however the extent and purpose of this is unclear.  Some argue that in religious sacrifice the heart of considered most important, and therefore eaten to gain that sacrificed&#039;s best qualities.  Others say that cannabalism was practiced to subsidize a diet consisting mostly of grains and little meat.  Whatever the reason that cannabalism and sacrifice started, as time went it became highly ritualized and a central aspect of these peoples belief system.
