Question:

Do Metro North Metro Cards Work On MTA Train Lines?

I work in the city and I am trying to commute back and forth from the bronx on the metro north. I am thinking about purchasing a monthly metro north pass to get to and from the city but the only problem is that I have to take the 6 train further downtown after I get off at grand central station. Does anyone have any suggestions, tips or general knowledge of how to go about this process without having to purchase a Metro North metro card and a MTA metro Card?

  1. Metro North passes will not work on the subway nor will MetroCards work on Metro North. You will need to get a MetroCard for the subway in addition to your monthly Metro North pass.

  2. There are no subway turnstiles on MTA Metro-North or Long Island Railroad since this trains are commuter rails, not part of subway system.

MTA Metro-North serves upstate NY, well as Connecticut, along with NJT in West of Hudson Line.

However, MTA MetroCard is also accepted on Westchester Coutny Bee-Line buses.

As alternate, you may join Mail & Ride offer Monthly pass.

If you ordered MNRR Mail & Ride, depends where you live in Bronx, you also receive Monthly MetroCard with your Monthly Ticket.
