Do Mexicans in Mexico City hate black people?

Do people in Mexico City hate black people? I was in Mexico City airport (and even though i never went around the city) i felt very discriminated around all the female workers at the airport when i was asking for help searching for an airline. Mind you i'm puerto rican/dominican and speak good spanish (even though everyone thinks i'm african american) but anyways is it me or the mexicans in mexico city don't like black people. If they don't i definately don't want to go back there. I'm asking cause i really wanted to visit mexico city and this has put a damper on the idea of going again.

Chilangoes (mexicans from Mexico city) don't hate black people, they hate ALL people.

I am mexican, not from Mexico city. They don't trust anybody, they live scared to everybody. Mexico City is a very bad place to live.

I've been to Mexico on work trips three times, and though I found the people very friendly and engaging, I would say there is a general prejudice against darker skin. Lighter Mexican vs darker Mexicans (like the Indians) was very prevalent. The Japanese, I've heard, are also biased against other Asians. Mexico is also still a very male dominated society. Example, senor means mister AND lord. Go figure! peace

No!! Mexicans don´t hate black people,  you know it´s so weird to find black people anywhere here in Mexico, so it´s awesome meet a black person, anyway people in Mexico city are not the best people in Mexico, those "chilangos", i hate them lol, im kidding, it´s because we (people form north of mexico) don´t like  chilangos,  but look there are a lot of great places here in Mexico, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, are the other two biggest cities in Mexico, and they are great, with great people!! trust me!!

They probably had a bad day.  With a population of almost 9 million, approximately 500,000 more people than in New York City, there was bound to have been someone who came along before you with an attitude problem and caused them to be upset.

i would say it's just mexican women...it's not a black thing, it's a women thing.  first of all, mexicans and puerto ricans don't get along as a general rule, as i'm sure you know.  secondly, women in mexico can easily be conceived as witchy...especially women from mexico city.and especially towards american women.  top that off with the fact that a black person is a bit of an oddity, and i'm sure that's why you felt uncomfortable.

just remember, it's not about "hate" at all....just the unfamiliar.

Yo no piienso que los mexicans odien a los negros, ellos solo ven bien a sus  paisas, sus comidas, sus bebidas y tienen las creencias que son los mejores, cuando manejan son super agresivos, (pena que no usen esa agresividad en triunfar) son tan machistas que no ceden paso a mujeres o esque les falta ese tipo de educacion, cuando hablas con ellos hacen como que te escuchan pero luego hacen lo que les da la gana, cuando son tus trabajadores, ni les importa el trabajo y ni tu como su patron, cuando puede te la hacen...

Para que te quejas?  asi son ellos y los aceptamos  o los ignoramos, yo hago ambos.... Mexico df es bonito y merece ser visitado. Tambien la influencia de la tv y las peliculas americanas tienen su culpa. Tomate un tequila y que te importa lo que digan o hagan. Suerte

Okay, I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but here is a story that I heard:

My friend's brother was murdered by a mexican in about 1980. The mexican pretended to be his friend. Then one night, the mexican invited his "friend" to go camping. He was also going to invite some of his mexican friends. They pretended to sleep and my friend's african american brother fell asleep first. The mexicans smeared petroluem jelly all over him and set him on fire. And he died. Then all of the mexicans went back to mexico city. They weren't even arrested or anything, because no one had any proof that they were the ones who killed them. But the police found ashes or a person on the campground, and the campground guards saw three mexicans running away in the middle or the night.

Yes, there is a conflict between the two groups of people.  In L.A. the Mexican people are running the black people out.  Why?  I really don't know.  But people of different races tend to disagree, and have skirmishes.

I've been in Mexico City before & I know people they are born in Mexico City. They are called "Chilangoes". To answer to your question, NO "Mexico City citizen" they do NOT hate or dislike black people. Mexico City it isn't like Orange County. I know my people & yes it happens every were. Not just Mexico City. Take care!

Hey there, let me begin telling you that I used to be a customs officer in the Mexico city Int, airport, and you don't know what that airport is like, TONS AND TONS OF PEOPLE ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT, Chilangos, Defeños, Capitalinos, call them what you want they are all the same Mexico city locals, are not at all racist, or anything like that, they welcome everyone...  as an extra comment... there are a couple of answers that should be corrected, the one from PILGRIM TRAVELLER and the one from ANNIE C...... PILGRIM DUDE... talk about facts.... señor is Mr. and Lord, but in two different ways. when you ask for Señor Garcia you are not asking fot Lord Garcia but for Mr. Garcia, if you say you are el señor del poker, then you are saying that you are the lord of poker, get some Spanish lessons dude... and stop being a stupid gringo...

As far as Annie's C.'s answer, girl you watch too much horror movies, Mexico city, is a very corrupt city, yes, I agree, but you don't kill Mr. Jones (a black, yellow, purple, tourist) and walk away just like that, I think I saw your story in a very bad horror movie, QUIT TAKING DRUGS GIRL...

On the other hand, I would say that Mexico is a very nice city to visit, as all larger cities in the world it has a high crime rate, lot's of people, and lot's of traffic... but it is one of the most beautiful cities to visit, with over 500 museums, thousands of parks, and millions of things to do and see, I will highly rteccomend you to take some time and visit the city, also the country is full of great places to visit, not just resort destinations...

No. They don't hate black people. The workers tend to be rude in the airport. It depends on how you address them. If you need to ask a question just try to ask as politely as possible to get a better answer or better treatment. In Mexico City, in general you need to converse with people for awhile to really get to know them and you will also find they begin to treat people better. Customer service is not quite as polite or friendly as it is in the US anyway.

NO.In Mexico people are tourist friendly, there is no racism towards black people. We live in peace and respect all the cultures, there are isolated incidents as in any part of the world. But Mexico is a peaceful country and everyone is welcome.

And the population in Mexico city is actually over 24 Million people, not 9. In the country there are 100 Million people, 1/4 is concentrated in mexico City. If you really want to know mexico you should start be the provinces, Oaxaca, Cancun, Puerto vallarta, Acapulco, mazatlan, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Chiapas, Michoacan.

There are many places to visit and an incredible diversity of wildlife.

Mira, soy mujer de la Ciudad de México y te puedo decir que NO odiamos a las personas de color, para nada. Lo que pasa es que en la ciudad no hay muchas personas de color y como quiera llaman la atención, a lo mejor les dió envidia. Si te trataron mal fue porque tal vez esas personas estaban de malas (trabajar en el aeropuerto, con tanta presión y tratando con las personas a veces es agotador y te pone de mal humor). Porfavor no te quedes con esa impresión de los mexicanos. Además la Ciudad de México es hermosa y llena de gente hospitalaria, y hay otros muchos lugares igual o más hermosos que puedes visitar. No te pierdas la oportunidad de conocer este lindo lugar por culpa de gente idiota que en TODAS las ciudades puede haber. El racismo no es cuestion sólo geográfica, sino de educación (o mala educación). Como mexicana te digo que hasta me da vergüenza ver cómo se expresan otras personas de nosotros.

Don't worry about it. I'm full blooded Mexican and I don't have any problem. I have a Dominican friend and I think she fine as h**l. I'm a Kat Deluna fan and shes Dominican. Mexico City is HUGE and youll get alot of ignorant people out there just like New York or Los Angeles but don't get the idea that ALL Mexicans are like that. The Mexican Caribbean and Veracruz/Eastern Mexico has a large concentrations of Afro Mexicans. Mexicans are really warming, friendly, cheerful people. Just some advice to ANYONE traveling to Mexico City.........when walking on the sidewalks/streets leave your purses or expensive jewelry in the hotel. By the way I want to travel to the Dominican Republic. I heard its beautiful. I got other Mexican friends that gone there and they say its nice and Dominican food is GOOD.
