I'm just wondering bcause i hv the feeling that he needed Kay just to produce his offspring.

Michael loved Apollonia, but she was murdered in an assassination attempt, so he lost his ability to love another person.  Kay gives him respectability and children, but he's too cold for love.  He barely tolerates his son and daughter, as they both disappoint him. (GF Pt III)

Yes, he loved her, but he was raised to believe that divorce isn't an option.  He stopped loving her the day that she told him that she had aborted their child (in the Godfather part II).
