Question:

Do Milk Snakes usually "like" to be held?

I am considering buying my first milk snake and have done quite a bit of research on-line, but I've found several disagreements on this subject. A lot of people claim that Milk Snakes are usually unfriendly, do not like to be handled and will often bite or musk, while a similar amount of people said that Milk Snakes are friendly and wonderfully easy to handle and care for. I would like to get in contact with an actual breeder or hobbyist who can give me some real answers before I go off and purchase one of my own.

  1. it depends on the snakes personality usually they don't but they can talerate it

  2. The only prob i have ever incountered with milk snakes is they do musk on occasion, mainly as juviniles. They are for the most part very easy to handle and care for. I think with knowledge on there needs you should do just fine with a milk snake, i feel they are one of the most beautiful snakes on the market.

  3. sorry dude but they don't

  4.       I took care of a milk snake for a little bit.  Most of the time he was so nice and just hung out on my arm and was very nice.  Then a few days latter he would not let me even change his water.  SO I think they have their good days and their bad days.  I was feeding the other snakes that day so maybe I smelt like a mouse or something.

Every snake is different. Even thow they are snake they still have different likes and dislikes. I think if you work with the snake and make him understand that being held is a good thing sure they can be good pets.  I really liked that little milk snake I cared.

  5. Well both descriptions are actually correct b/c it can all depend on the milk snake and how they've been taken care of. For example, A male pueblan I've had since he was a baby, he never bit but he would always musk. With some sporadic handling, he hasn't do that to me in awhile. I have a male honduran who has never bit or musked and he's great to handle as well and was like that the first day i got him. He wasn't a new born but was still small. Then I have two female hondurans and a female pueblan that have all either tried to bite or have bit me. The pueblan, w/ handling has not bitten since she was very young but will still musk. So as you see, it all depends on the snake you get and if you handle them. Before you buy your milk, just handle it and you'll get an idea of what it will do. Mexican and california's are the very same way w/ the musk.

  6. Mine didn't like to be held. He would pee on you every time you picked him up. They are not that freindly.

  7. NO and YES it depends on there individual personality one may let u one may not but all i have held have all been nice though babys may musk on u and thats a defnece mecanism and a few adults that are not handled alot will do that but to answer ur question yes they should be very easy to handle
