  1. I found a published study of the effectiveness of milk thistle.  I do not vouch for its accuracy, but here it is:

    http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/epcsums/milkt...

    Adverse Effects:

Gastrointestinal problems (e.g., nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, abdominal bloating, abdominal fullness or pain, anorexia, and changes in bowel habits).

    Headache.

Skin reactions (pruritus, rash, urticaria, and eczema).

Neuropsychological events (e.g., asthenia, malaise, and insomnia).

    Arthralgia.

    Rhinoconjunctivitis.

    Impotence.

    Anaphylaxis.

    However, causality is rarely

  2. Milk Thistle is known as a tonic for the liver and often people who are fasting will use it.  I've only heard of it as a tea rather than a supplement.  I don't know if the supplements would cause the symptoms you describe, but you might coincidently have a bladder infection, so please be sure to see a doctor.  You could go to a 'wallk-in' clinic.  They'd be able to tell if it was a bladder infection from a simple urine sample.

  3. I took it for years and never had any bladder issues with it.
