  1. The advantage of digital over analog is that perfect "clone" copies can be made, this helps with archiving.  Also as long as the tape plays, the picture is perfect, it does not fade or become noisy as analog tape might.  What wears any tape is excessive plays. It is best not to play more than a hundred or so passes if it can be avoided.  When i worked at a TV station that used SVHS tape, a tape could last for nearly 1000 passes in the automation players.

  3. Well, they do,BUT not as much as VHS tapes do

    but they MINI DV tapes are way better than VHS and for recording, they give you excellent quality, depending on your camera, use mini dv tapes if you plan to edit your video

    and you can always save your final videos to a DVD which last about 10 years

    ANd if you plan on buying a camcorder get one that uses mini DV tapes, there not old like many people think

    in FACT professional filmmakers use cameras that store video on mini dv tapes
