Question:

Do Mini Lop Rabbits Get Along With Other Pets?

by  |  earlier

I am getting a Mini Lop rabbit in a few months. At the moment, I have a jack russel cross and a cockatiel. They both get along fine and even when the bird flys my dog never hurts him.. But they have been together for about 4 years now. If I introduce the rabbit to the other animals slowly would they be okay around eachother? (please keep in mind that I would NEVER leave them alone together).

- Thankyou.

  2. hello there

you shouldn't have any problems when it comes to the cockatiel.they may not be friends but they won't mind each other anyways.

for the dog,you may have a hard time.you need proper introduction with both animals.for the introduction,it might not always be successful because some dog breeds have hunting dogs in their blood and may not control themselves.but do these steps anyway:

♦keep the rabbit inside its cage but leave the door open.

♦hold the dog on the leash so you have control and slowly move him near to the cage.watch out if he bites the rabbit.this is the most tricky part.

♦do these steps for over a week and see if there is any improvements.if so,try letting your rabbit out for a while with the dog.but make sure you are there.sure enough,if all is well, they will be friends but then again, this does not work on all dogs.

yes, make sure you are there when the rabbit is with the dog.don't let them out of your sight.you never know....

best wishes and have a nice day!
