Do My Spells Effect Gladiator Beast Alexander (ex. a equip spell)? Or Are They Negated By Alexander's Effect

i was wondering cuz i always though they did, but then i went here: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Card_Tips:Gladiator_Beast_Alexander (the best yugioh site ever) and it said differently...im very confused!

you can still equip it with equip cards but most will be negated.the Halberd will still work because the Halberd affects the opponent, not Alexander. Equip card that affect the holder will be negated by alexander but the equip cards that affect the opponent will still work. Other spells will not touch him (including your own) unless he is tributed for the cost of a spell. I cannot think of one right now, but if a spell says this card can only be activated by sending one monster on your field to the graveyard, then Alexander can be used for that cost because it isn't the spells effect but its activation requirement.  I hope this helps.
