Do NFL owners really deserve an extra billion dollars? - Part 1
For those of you, who think that the owners in the National Football League (NFL) deserve the extra $1 billion a year that they are asking for, read on. You might begin to change your mind.
Before we get to the owners though, think about this. The owners and the players have money. Normal people have money. Normal people and players work hard for their money. Owners on the other hand, not so much.
Before you guys start yelling about how much work it is to be the owner of an NFL team, I’m not saying that it’s an easy job. But either they are juggling their account books around or are just plain dumb. To understand why I’m saying this, think about what
is going on right now. The owners want more money to cover their costs. Retired players want benefits for their years of hard work and brutal game-play. The owners also want to extend the regular season from 16 to 18 games.
Why? The owners want to make more money, simply said. They are greedy and will stop at nothing to get more and more of what they already have. They are risking a lockout just so that they can make even more money than they did last year. To understand this,
take a look at some owners around the NFL.
Let’s start with Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder. Although this owner does not ride around in a million-dollar car and lives in a house that costs as much as a normal American would not make in his entire life, he is one greedy old man. He is worth
$1.1 billion and just two years ago, sued a 73-year-old woman because she fell behind on her payment for season tickets.
You think that’s bad? Snyder was also caught buying expired peanuts from an airline that went out of business and selling them at home games for a large profit.
Still think that they need more money? Yes? Well then take a look at Paul Allen.
The owner of the Seattle Seahawks owns a yacht. Ok, so a yacht, not such a big deal, but Allen’s yacht is 414 feet long, has a basketball court, music studio, swimming pool, two submarines and two helicopters. And in case something goes wrong with this yacht,
which he has christened ‘The Octopus’, he has two backup yachts.
So people like these are the ones that want more money and are risking the cancellation of the 2011 NFL season. They are the ones who would pop a child’s balloon to see him cry, smile devilishly when they hear a bug zapper and want a highway to pave over
a few impoverished neighborhoods. Possibly the worst thing to do in this day and age is to cancel the NFL season.
Ok, so you don’t like the players. That’s your problem, as the unemployment rate in the United States of America has gone up to 9 per cent of the total population. People have lost their homes, cars and some can’t even scrape together a month’s rent.
