Question:

Do NOT tell people when you disagree with them unless it is absolutely necessary...?

If you can't agree with people, and many times you can't, then just don't disagree with them unless it is absolutely necessary.

You will be amazed at how seldom this will be.

extracted from 'Skill with People' by Les Giblin (1965)

The author also says, "The more listening you do, the smarter you will become".

How easy is it it to follow the above advice?

Thanks. ~

  1. That is sometimes true but it is sometimes false. Sometimes it is absolutely necessary to stand for what you believe in. If you go through your entire life disagreeing with folks without vocally disagreeing with them, you are not much more than a yes man or a wallflower. I do agree that it is important to be respectful and diplomatic. But there are many many times in life where you just have to call someone out. Especially if their view is overly harmful to others.

  2. Not true, depends on a persons capacity. there are naturally born smart people.

No matter how much listening a person did, if he's a naturally stupid genetically, he can never be smart.

I speak up for i have something i to release because of its fullness .(no matter what your opinion is) and i know its healthy for my brain. LIFE is only what matters.

  3. it is very hard. but good question!!

  4. Not easy at all. But thanks for the smartest question on Answers tonight. I think smart is s**y!

  5. When you disagree with someone you can be neutral, such as "You know, you just might be right" or "hey, I might agree with you if you can give me some of your sources." The other quote "The more listening you do, the smarter you will become" is quite true. The more you listen the more information you gain. It really doesn't matter who the information is coming from. All that matters is what kind of information are you gaining and how you can use this information to your advantage. For example, hydrogen peroxide can take blood stains out of clothes. That is a useful bit of information that you might very well need in the near future.

  6. Sometimes it's necessary to disagree with people. If it's something that's important to you, then yes you should say something.  On the little, unimportant things though, it's not always necessary.  I don't believe in keeping quiet all the time - that's just suppressing your own feelings and will eventually lead to resentment.  Listening more is a good thing though -  we none of us listen enough.
