Do Nascar drivers have to live in North Carolina?

An employer, ANY employer, can not dictate where you reside.  It is illegal.  As long as it does not affect your duties, you can live on Mars.

That said, MOST drivers choose to live in NC, namely in the Charlotte area (specifically in Mooresville) due to the proximity of their race shops.  This lets them drop in and see how things are going often and builds team morale.  They also have duties in the NC area they have to attend to.

No, I mean Tony Stewart doesn't, but most do simply because for the most part it's near the race shop.

They don't have to.  However most of them have at least 2 homes.  One where they are from and 1 near their race shop.  Its pretty useful to live near work because you have to be there during the week to discuss things from the last race and the next race with your team.

Many of them don't. They don't really need to be at the shop unless it's for a meeting. It's not like they work on the cars. They fly into the track for the race weekend and fly back home after it's over.

No, it is not required.  They can live any where they like.  Problem is, almost all the team shops are located in that general area.  If they live anywhere else, they would never, ever be home!
