Do New Homes Appreciate?

I am thinking of building a new lake home on Indian Lake, Ohio. Do you think it will rise in value?

  1. My dad lives not far from you in Ohio - the house was purchased in the late 50s for 17k.  It has 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, a sunporch, 2 car garage, and finished studio in the basement (daylight).  It's worth about 150k today.  

    Yes, they will rise!

    If you build with some green features, it will be worth even more.

  2. Most new and old homes appreciate in value over time. How much and whether they do at all depends more on location than the home itself. If Indian Lake is the type of place where people desire to live, then yes a new home would appreciate in value over time. Especially from now, since we're pretty much near rock bottom in the housing market.
