Wouldn't any good OB have this as standard equipment in their office instead of sending patients other places?

  1. When I was going through fertility treatments, my OB had one in his office.  I don't know if this is standard practice though.

  2. some do but some rather just send you out for it.

Not having the equipement dosnt mean he's not good, just too cheap to buy and hire!

  3. My doc had it in his office and that's where he did it for me

  4. I don't think there is an easy answer to this question. The clinic that I went to when I was pregnant had the ultrasound machine. But they were a women's clinic that also had a mammography machine in house and a blood draw lab in house.

Ultrasound machines are expensive to buy and maintain not to mention paying a tech or techs to work there and do the ultrasounds all day.

  5. At the first ob/gyn clinic I used, they did not yet have an ultrasound machine there so they had to send me to a hospital to have it done. At the second clinic I used, they had their own machine so I had the ultrasound done there.

Both clinics were equal in quality.

Make sure you confirm with your health insurance that your ultrasound is still covered if you are sent to another location to have it done. I did not confirm this and ended up with a $600 bill for the ultrasound.

  6. My doc has one, and I did have my 1st US done there in the office.  However, she sent me to another place to do subsequent ones as the other place had more specialized training and better equipment.  I think it makes sense to send you somewhere else where they specialize in ultrasounds to get the best results, so that your OB office can concentrate on his/her own specialty - the work of an OB.

  7. The doctor did mine in is office.he/she will call it early ob check.

  8. Do you know how much it costs to keep this equipment up to date?   I'll bet not or you wouldn't be asking this question.

Doctor's groups have to decide where best to put their money. It is not related to whether they are good or not.  For instance, my women's clinic has state-of-the-art ultrasounds, but they also have 12 doctors including 2 who handle high risk pregnancies.  This helps to benefit women who don't have insurance because they can choose to offer free or low-cost ultrasounds since they own the machine.  They no longer have mammography, because it just wasn't used enough to justify upgrading. As a result, they can no longer offer free or reduced cost mammograms to women who had no insurance.  Some of these machines (like the latest MRIs) have to be used round the clock to pay for them.

  9. YES!! good luck
