Is it right to go through a teenagers room and check on things once in a while? Other Parents PLEASE. I know teenagers will get on here and say NO.

  1. Well I'm between...I'm 22 but I will give you my opinion and at least let you know it's not coming from a parent of a teen which you are probably right a bunch of teens will answer assuming ...Anyhow I don't think you should snoop around your kids room for no reason...If you suspect something then yes but you need to build trust between you and your kids

  2. I wouldn't mind my parents checking like once a month. (but they doesn't really check mine.) But once in a while would be very annoying.

  3. Unless you suspect your child of doing something I don't suggest looking through your teens room. They catch you doing it and there's going to be some "h**l to pay."

Your teen respects you not to be looking through their belongings. I doubt that he/she is up in your room looking through your things, you should give them the same common curtesy.

Unless you feel that your teen is doing something/in danger, I would not suggest doing it.

  4. I don't really agree.. Yes i am a  teenager, but i don't go through my mom's private stuff.. My mom does not plunder through my room because she trusts me.. Having someone going through your room once and a while can really damage their feelings because it seems that you can't trust them.

However, if you do suspect your teens are going through something it's best to find out what, why and how through talking to them.. But there are times when you do have to intervene and check their rooms.

  5. my mother doesn't go through my room but if she did she wouldn't find anything she'd just lose all my trust and a little respect too. parents should really take that into consideration before they go looking through their teen's room.

  6. I'm an in between person too. I wouldn't go through your teenagers room just because but I would go if you suspect something that could hurt them. I would be more open with your kids, my parents were super open growing up and I never tried drugs or drinking; since they were open and never suspected anything they never went through my room. Good luck! =]

  7. Um ya you can but my mom cleans my room sometimes and so she checks everywhere

  8. You trust your child don't you? If so, why do you feel the need to go through his/her room?

As a teen myself, I can't see the need. If you feel your child is doing something they shouldn't, can't you just ask them? If then they are dishonest, or hold something back ONLY then should you go through. Never let them find out though. It will cause tension, arguments and you will be deemed untrustworthy to your child.

Talk to them about it first. Imagine yourself at 14, how would you have reacted?

Yes, I'm a teenager, but my opinion still counts.
