It makes a great movie plot where the police escort a criminal into custody handcuffed under his jacket onto a commercial flight.

Does this ever happen in real life? Are prisoners really transferred via commercial flights?

  1. if it is a prison transferring prisoners, it is usually done by bus. However, the US marshals sometimes put prisoners on a commercial aircraft. They are shackled at the legs and hands and are escorted by at least 2 US marshals.

  2. The Federal Marshal service does move criminals from state to state by commercial aircraft. The cuffs are in complete view leg irons and hand cuffs chained around the waist. This is reserved for the least likely flight risk criminal. Most are driven by SUV or van.

  3. It happened on Lost, so it must be true. As long as the prisoners are real hotties, I think it's done pretty frequently.

  4. I don't think so.

  5. no they actually have an unmarked Jet Airplane to transfer prisoners saw it on TV once, they seal off airports when they fly to prevent a escape attempt

  6. yes

  7. they do occaisonally, they are heavily restrained.  they prefer to bus prisoners though
