  1. not if they are on duty

  2. On duty - no, though the case is investigated.

Off duty - yes, just like any other civilian.

  3. Not if on duty, although some seem to think this should apply even if they are not, judging by the way some of them drive then!!

  4. Yes, certainly. Even if on duty and snapped by a camera they have to justify to their superiors why they were speeding - in this force area anyway.  If there was no justification, the driver gets the pleasure of a ticket.

I'd add that as part of driver/rider training they sometimes also are required to exceed the limit - that's considered justification.

  5. hi there yes we do if not on duty x

  6. Yes we do.  If we are on our way to an emergency incident and set off a speed camera, we can justify doing so by the nature of the incident we are called to.

If however we set off a speed camera by just driving too fast for the sake of it then we would, quite rightly, get a ticket.

We are not above the law.

  7. I once saw a police car stuck in traffic, after about 5 mins they put their siren on and everyone had to get out of the way.

In an emergency i understand, but that was stupid. AND after they had got past the worst of it, they turned the siren off...

  8. Unlikely when on duty, but not unknown...a Chief Constable recently got 'done' for speeding....off duty it is the same as everyone else.....

  9. Rarely if ever,

they flash their badges when pulled over & then go on their way.

  10. Police officers, like the rest of society, are bound by the laws they are sworn to uphold. The officer may be ticketed while off duty if they engage in activities that violate traffic laws. If there is an issue of speed while on duty, it would be referred to the officers supervisor.

  11. no

  12. NO THEY GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING.

    I HATE COPS!

  13. Yes, there have been quite a few published cases of even very senior Police Officers getting nicked, nobody is immune from it.

  14. Almost everyone who answered above, just said what everyone knows already. They just said what it's supposed to be like.

My friend who worked at Scotland Yard in London told me how when with police buddies on weekend motorcycling rides they frequently got pulled up for speeding. High speeds too. I was told that as soon as they showed their I.D. they were talked to as buddies and left to continue their rides.

That's from the horses mouth. Not from a brainwashed idiot.

  15. if another police officer is on duty and that officer sees another police officer speeding without calling it in the police officer has a right to stop that police car wierd huh to see a cop handing a nother cop a ticket while your driving on the highway thats 1 in a million

  16. Off duty, yes.

On duty and unable to justify their speed, yes again.

  17. GENERALLY, Officers do not write other officers for minor violations. It is an unwritten code called "professional courtesy." There are several reasons for this. One is that officer may need the other officer to back him up someday, and it is a whole lot easier to back somebody up if your not remembering a bad incident that happened sometime ago. The other reason is that cops risk there lives everyday. They work long hours and come home late to upset wives and children. They watch their brothers in blue fall or become injured for life. They also have to deal with politics and bureaucracy. Each police officer knows this and tries to relieve the daily stress on each other as much as possible.

Major violations are another story. If a police officer gets caught driving under the influence, that's intolerable with most officers, going too fast intentionally can also be unforgivable. If I stop a police officer and he is speeding but not intentionally and not excessively, then I can forgive that too. Keep in mind I also give the average joe breaks like this too when the situation calls for it.
