Do Pre Ignition Catalytic Converters work?

Google it on the Web, or see page 49 advertisement in the January 14 issue of Newsweek. The manufacturers claim 198 mpg with a v-8 engine.

  1. Most current catalytic converter already have a pre-ignition phase in their operation.  The ones claiming incredible gas mileage are just a scam that sounds cool enough to maybe convince people.

    There is no magic bullet that will increase gas mileage like they claim.  See the link for technical details on current three way converters in relatively understandable not overly technical English.

  3. Well, after taking a look at it, I have come to the conclusion that it is COMPLETE AND UTTER GARBAGE

None of the adds seem very lagitamate.  It looks a lot like a scam to me.  It sure would be nice if the answer was that easy.  I personally will wait and see how it is rated once it is in use.  I can't find anything on a product rating site for the hyro-assist fuel cell (a similar product being sold on the same sites) .  Just be careful.
