Do Private Universities Offer Scholarships??

Question

I'm doing a school project for my AVID class. I'm in the 8th grade and I'd like to go to Brown University, Georgetown University, or New York University. It is important that I get into a respectable university. Now anyways, my school project is requiring information regarding their scholarship opportunities. And I'm not quite sure, however, I've heard that private universities do not offer scholarships. Is this information I have received correct? If anybody has an answer I'd appreciate that.

private universites sometimes offer scholarships in certain situations, but overall i dont think they do

Private colleges and universities usually give out academic scholarships.  But it really depends on the college or university you are applying to.  Ivy league schools usually do not offer much in the way of scholarships due to the caliber of the students applying - how do give out scholarships to the best of the best, it would be difficult to figure out who to give it to.  But for the most part, private colleges and universities do give out scholarships in an attempt to make their higher priced school more compariable to the cost of a state school.  So keep studying and work on those grades throughout high school, good luck!

they offer scholarships all the time. For example,  USC gives out millions a year to students.

Private colleges almost always give out scholarships, but its based on an extensive application with what ever criteria that they decide on. So some people may qualify for a lot of scholarships and others may not. I would look on-line at the universities you are looking at for your project and be sure to look up the alumni association they usually give out  nice scholarship packages to current students.
