Question:

Do RAW FOODIST ever get sick/ill??

Sounds like a silly question I know. HOWEVER, so many people start a raw food diet to improve their health, or as natural cure to an illness/cancer.

It seems that Raw food is healing the sick. But once on the diet, can a raw foodist become sick with things like the common cold, flu, cancers, etc..? Or since the raw foodist eat healthy all the time, are they immune from illness?

1) Has any raw foodist(reading this question) become ill/sick with anything. Especially cancers??

Just curious. I’m hopeing to start a raw food diet. And with all the health benefits people are telling me. I have this fantasy that I’ll be healthy for the rest of my raw food life, and I’ll literally never get sick with anything… is this possible – is perfect health for ever unrealistic - should I not get my hopes up??

Thanks in advance to all those who take the time to humor this question (^_^)

  1. that depends on the person.

i'm raw foodist 50 percent of the time..    i do this to cleanse my body.. the other half i'm a vegetarian.

so far in 30 years i've been doing rather well..

ain't dead yet..   don't get cold too often and ...?    i'm not sure what else i can say honey.

  2. No matter what your lifestyle, you will be exposed to toxic substances that can cause cancer. You can reduce your risk for some cancers significantly by choosing a healthy lifestyle (not smoking, avoiding certain foods, getting exercise, etc) but you can't totally avoid the risk. We live in a polluted world.

You also can't totally avoid the sniffles based on your diet. Genetics and other lifestyle elements are just as important. Perfect health forever is unrealistic. There just is no way. However, better health is always possible.

Remember that the number one indicator of risk for many cancers is genetics.

  3. Anyone who starts a raw food diet in the hope of curing cancer is dicing with death; and there are no foods, raw or otherwise, that have been proven to prevent cancer - or to cause it, or treat it, or affect its progress in any way.

Probably you would be healthier than the average person - so much junk and processed food would be avoided by following a raw food diet.

But you would be foolish to assume a raw food diet will protect you from random diseases like cancer. Cancer affects the healthy and the unhealthy alike, and nobody knows what causes most cancers. Many people diagnosed with cancer have followed very healthy diets and had very healthy lifestyles.

**EDIT: what you are referring to are studies that *suggest* that certain foods *may* be implicated in *some* cancers. Studies are not proof and the people who carry them out are usually the first people to point that out. Often there are studies with different results.

What I said is true - there are no foods proven to cause cancer and certainly no foods proven to cure it. I bet your friend who had cancer had conventional treatment; it's not unusual for people who are enthusiastic about an 'alternative', including diets, to give the credit  for their remission (you say cured, but it may well be the case that they are in remission) to the alternative therapy rather than to the tested and proven treatment they had.

Believe me, I know more about cancer than I ever wanted to know. When I was first diagnosed I was desperate to find an alternative to the harsh treatments. Apart from the obvious quack remedies, I looked into diet. Those pushing diet as a cure told me to eat a vegan diet  - erm, I had been vegan for years, and vegetarian for decades before that. They told me to eat raw food - I already ate it in quantity. They asked for lots of money to sort out my diet... but that's another rant for another time.

I've a suggestion for you; post a question on YA's Cancer section asking if anyone has had any success curing cancer with a raw food diet.

You will get a few answers from people with no experience of cancer at all, either first- or second-hand,  who think they know how to cure it. Some will tell you their mum's friend's hairdresser's cousin's wife's brother knew someone who cured their cancer through diet alone and amazed their doctors.

Included in these  will be a smattering of replies from nutjobs telling you that the cure is hemp oil, or apricot kernels or baking soda.

You may get a reply from a regular with terminal cancer who nevertheless claims improvement through diet.

You WON'T get any answers from people who have cured their cancer through diet, but you may well get a couple of sad replies from people who had a family member or friend who refused conventional treatment and relied on diet - note the past tense.

Excuse the lengthy edit, but cancer is a subject I feel passionately about  - and for a non-medical person , I know a lot about it too.

And I assure you - I warn you - that a healthy diet, raw or otherwise, is not a guarantee against cancer, and there is no diet that is  a cure for cancer.

  4. Yes!  If your vegetables, fruits, etc. are contaminated with E-Coli or Salmonella.  You can get very sick.  There have been recent health reports warning consumers about contaminated spinach, avocado, tomatoes, etc.  Cooking helps destroy these culprits.  If you chose a raw food diet, please check all warnings and keep up to date about any E-Coli or Samonella problems.

  5. yes you will still get sick. yes it is unrealistic to think you will have perfect health for the rest of your life.

  6. I got sent to a nutritionist once who was a raw foodist and throughout our meeting she had to go out a few times because she had sickness and diarrhea! I felt so unconvinced haha!

  7. Hello.

It is true that a Raw Foodist tends to be much more healthier that any other people who follow a different diet. And yes, it is true that they have much more less chances of getting sick by any kind of illness. However, it is not possible that by following that diet, you are 100% sure you will NEVER get sick.

The human body, and generally all the living animals and plants, can get sick but a Raw Foodist has much less chances of getting sick because his/her body consumes all the vitamins, minerals and proteins in a much more healthier way than all the others do. For example, even vegans and vegetarians, with the way they cook their vegetables, many benefits of the vegetables are destroyed because of the heat.

If you follow a raw food diet CORRECTLY, you can be much more confident about your health and you will surely be much more healthy! You will consume all the goods from your food in a great way because all the vitamins, protein, minerals etc... will be at their full state!

You should keep in mind though that it will be much harder to find food when you dine out. Of course, if you are confident with eating salad every time you go out then there should be no problem!

Best of luck with becoming a raw foodist!

    Hope I helped!

  8. If you start a raw foods diet you will become a super hero.  True story.  This one time, this guy ate some raw spinach.  Do you know who that man was?  POPEYE!  This other time, this other guy ate some raw carrots.  Today we know that man as Superman.  Raw foods make you invincible, obviously.  My leg fell off last week and the doctors said they couldn't fix it, but I just ate a raw onion and the magic raw food fairies flew threw the window and sowed me up good-as-new.  But remember to say Beetlejuice three times and draw a chalk door or they won't show up.  Also, raw food will make you happy like Smilin' Bob in the Enzyte commercials... true story.  I wouldn't lie to you.  Raw foods can also slice, dice, even make julienne fries.  All for the low, low price of a little misdirection and lack of common sense.

  9. When I had tried it this summer I became very ill in the beginning. I had sharp stomach pains and stuff. After a while I got better, but raw foodism wasn't for me.
