Do Royalty have car insurance?

Having car insurance is the law. It covers you in the event of injury and damage to a third party at the very least. But Royalty are ultra rich, so in the event of an accident they would have no problems paying for damage or injury ot a third party or to themselfs.

  1. I would think that they do. That way they only need pay the excess if they have an accident instead of paying for the repair in full themselves.

  2. LOL. good question. I think they should have insurance anyway, that is in the event they drive without their chauffeur.

  3. Yes - Insurance is a legal requirement.   Members of the royal family are all subjects of the queen - except the queen herself - and so are subject to the law.   And the queen is subject the same laws as the rest of us except when acting as soveriegn - and then she has a subject/driver!

  4. Why not,,they have everything else

  5. The answerer above me is wrong. The entire Royal Family pay income tax, including the Queen herself.

I would think they probably have car insurance, since it is required by law. Even the Royal Family is not above the law and they usually drive their own vehicles, except for formal occasions.

  6. They don't need car insurance.

In the UK, if you can prove to DVLA that you have the funds set aside to underwrite the costs of any possible accident (I think the figure is something like £50,000) then you don't ned to have motor insurance.

In the case of the royals, they simply say "Oh, if I have an accident, the taxpaying oiks will foot the bill".

  7. i think they would

  8. I would guess that they would.  But, you have to think again that rarely does the Queen do any of her own driving in public.

Another question that comes to mind, does she keep insurance on the carriages that take her to Parliament, wedding and Tesco.

I remember that when Windsor castle burned it was not insured and there was a great debate about whom should pay for the repairs.  Perhaps, that was a structure that uninsurable?

If you've ever seen the Simpsons TV show, in one episode they visit England and Homer has an accident with the Queen in her carriage.  They go to court and the Queen testifies, in a bejewelled neck brace,  that she was on her way to the village to buy light bulbs.

  9. No. The Queen does not have or need car insurance. While most drivers require insurance, the Queen's transport is a different matter than for the average person.

Governments don't buy insurance for their buildings or their fleets of vehicles. It is too expensive and consider more cost efficient for the government simply to pay for damages from special reserves in the budget. That's how the Canadian and British and most governments work.

As for the Royal Carriages, those are owned by the state and held in trust by the Sovereign. So are the art collections, jewels, and most palaces.

  10. i doubt it !  Queenie doen't pay income tax so why should she fork out for this ?

  11. Yes they do when driving their own personal cars they are not above the law nobody is the law says you have to have a least third party insurance before you can have a vehicle on the road
