Do Self Checkouts Ask for ID

Like at walmart. if i were to get a game that was rated M and wasnt in the shelf cases, could i take it to the self checkout without problems or would it ask for my id?

Upon scanning a product that requires age verification, the computer will notify an attendant who is obliged to come over in person and verify the age requirement is met before the purchase process can continue.
