  1. They're people just like the rest of us. Some are prone to profanity, others are not - just like the rest of us. I cuss like a sailor, but never had an on-air incient in ten years.

    -a guy named duh

  2. When I worked for NBC, I remember watching Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric on the direct feed during "The Today Show" commercian breaks, and the two of them would say things that, if they got out, would make them look really bad if not seriously affect their careers. When I worked for an affiliate in Milwaukee, I remember we had a news anchorwoman who swore like a sailor off the air, but was as professional as can be on-air.

Radio people tend to be looser than TV people, so they probably swear more often off-air just because that's who they are. Radio people also get fired more often, so they have alot more to swear about.

  3. How in the @#&$ would I know? :-)

  4. The real professionals don't swear anywhere there might be a chance of being picked up on mic.  Out of the station they are like you and me.  Some do, some don't.  In 40+ years in radio I've known some who do a lot, others who never do.  It's a personal thing and I don't think the personalities are any more or less prone to it.  Maybe a bit less if they get used to not swearing around mics.

  5. I've been in radio for over 5-years.  I swear every other word as soon as I turn the mic off.  I've only sweared twice on air (accidently) and I never got busted for it.

  6. Depends on teh personality but some stay clean all the time to keep from boo-booing, others can turn it off like a switch.. Mic is no cursing, but other than that can curse like a sailor.

But that's the reason why most stations run what is termed the "dump" button... it's a delay to keep curse words from going over the air
