Do Taxi drivers have to wear seat belts?

ive been in many a taxi black cabs and taxis ive seen some wear seat belts and some don't...i always wear a seat belt the last taxi i was in i sat in the front the driver told me to put my belt on i told him i always wear 1...next thing i noticed he didn't have his belt on so i asked him why he hasn't got his on he said taxi drivers don't have to wear 1 because in case they get attacked so i said no no the law says if you get into a car you have to wear a seat belt he was adamant taxi drivers don't have to wear seat belts because he passed his exams and knows it all ...so who's right me or the driver.

  3. Taxi drivers dont have to wear seat belts ,it is because of the threat of violence and being able to defend themselves ,but if they want to wear the seat belt they can also.

  5. my grandad is a taxi driver and he doesnt wear his seat belt but now he has got into the habbit of not putting it on that when hes in his car he doesnt put his seat belt on so i have to remind him

Having a seatbelt for at least six hours makes anybody get tired specially taxi or bus drivers it  is the law for everyone to wear one do...he is right in one fact that taxi drivers get grabbed from behind when they get assaulted he must have already experienced something like it and is a very bad thing..be a little more understanding also he said for your safety to wear yours

  8. That depends on the laws of the state you are in, however, I don't know of any states that don't require all passengers of a moving vehicle to wear seat belts.

    Everyone has to wear a seat belt on the road.

  9. Whilst carrying a fare the driver is exempt from wearing a seat belt, in case he has to get out quickly if he is being attacked. When he is not carrying fare paying passengers he must wear his belt.

    Makes good sense in one way, but he is at risk of injury in an accident.

  14. The law regarding taxi drivers in the UK states the following (not 'word for word')

    Hackney carriage/black cab drivers don't have to wear seat belts at all.

    Private hire drivers (those driving ‘normal' road cars used as taxis) have to wear a seat belt when they DON'T have a passenger.  They are exempt from wearing a seat belt when they have a passenger for safety reasons to prevent or avoid attacks.
