Do The Real Police Watch Reality Cop TV Shows?

Do real police officers watch shows related to law enforcement such as COPs and speeders on Tru Tv? Or do police officers try not to watch these kinds of shows on their off-time to take their minds off crime for a little bit?

Ok. You got me.  My dirty secret.  Watch them all the time!  Get to say out loud to the TV what I would never say in 'real life'.

Oh, yeah.  Reno 911. I din't think of that one. I love that one.  I work with a guy who reminds me, sadly, of Junior.

A lot of the ones I know watch Reno 911 because they said it's more realistic than Cops.

I don't/didn't watch past a few minutes of any of these "reality" shows. I felt they were exploitative and made complicated situations simple and most importantly they are usually boring, I want to be entertained. A pure fiction police drama or comedy is more fun, even if it gets all the procedures wrong.

I used to watch them, before and during school.  Once I had my own experience I find them to be extremely boring and I just spend the whole time criticizing the way the officer's are working.  I notice all the things the officer's at the scene don't and it drives me nuts.

I watched the show jail once, the first day.  I said to my dad, "That's pretty much how it is, I get enough at work."

Yes, it's true. Reality Tv. True TV shows like COPS is a great show to watch to see how other's operate. What to do/not to do and some of us watch to see if we made this weeks episode of COPS...

RENO 911 is a funny show, I'e seen some dept. that are just like that.

When I'm off duty I do sometimes, but I usually want to get my mind off work since it is stressful. :)

I do, many do not.

It's actually a great learning/training tool. I see a lot of bad/dangerous/stupid police work.  I also a lot of new dope hiding spots, suspect BS excuses and some good police work too.

Yes.  My town's sheriff and I are best friends, and when I go to his house he's always watching cops.

My husband is a vice-narcotics detective and he watches those kinds of shows all the time. He LOVES Tru TV. I would be surprised if there is an episode of COPS that he hasn't seen.
