Question:

Do Think They Will Take Her Away?

There is this beautiful, sweet 4 - 5 month mastiff puppy next door. I am constantly out at the fence playing with her and petting her, because her owners only feed her. I have never seen them out there with her and when the kids come out, she is put in a kennel most of the time. And I feel so bad for her, that she could be dealt such a horrible hand at life. IN my opinion, these people should never own another animal.

Lately it seems as though they are moving. They used to have a trampoline, a kids play set, and a swimming pool, that they have all taken down. During the day, she is able to go up on the porch and she has shade, but during a certain part of the day, when it's the most miserably hot, there is no natural shade. Those yard fixtures were her shade. We saw her trying to cool off in the shade of a power pole yesterday.

We are not sure they are giving her enough water either. When we saw her trying to cool off yesterday, we pulled the hose over through the fence and she drank for a good five minutes. A dog with water access doesn't do that. We also sprayed her down with the water. Now we live in the desert, where at this time of year it's freaking hot, and to be outside all day without proper water, it's just horrible.

We also discovered, when we were giving her water, that someone had put her harness on up side down. The strap around her chest is so tight, I can't one finger underneath. It has to be making breathing uncomfortable.

Do you think, that with the report I put in to a cruelty investigator, that they could seize her? Or because she has no life threatening injuries or she not in immediate danger, will they just warn, educate, and move on?

  1. As long as she has food and shelter, and no signs of physical abuse, they won't seize her.

I agree, these people have no business with a dog.

Can you kidnap her? I did that once when a neighbor of mine had his pit on a chain that was only 5 feet long.

  2. Well she needs help that's for sure!  have you spoken to your neighbors about her??

Maybe that's all it will take.  If not then please call the right people and have them come out and see whats going on.

It's better than having the poor pup neglected!

  3. Some people are ignorant with animals. It makes me annoyed. They'll educate them and they will keep an eye on her. They might visit every 2 weeks. If she's got life threatening injuries, yes they'll take her away from them.

  4. I don't think they will take her away, but you could give it a shot. It sounds what they are doing to her is horrible! D:

If I were you, I'd wait till they left, take the dog and bring it to a friends house or something until they left. Because well I'd do anything for animals. :D

Anyway, you should definitely report it, if they do nothing about it, do something yourself!

  5. Have you talked to your neighbours about the dog? And if not, then you have no right to involve yourself. You need to find out the whole story. For instance- the old man behind my house has a shepherd cross that is tied up always. Never, ever walked and she's left out year round and we are in Canada. Winter is cold! But we found out that he rescued the dog from the pound a couple of hours before she was due to be euthanized. No one else in our small town wanted her. He is too old to walk her but he feeds and waters her and pets her. She at least is alive. Don't judge your neighbours until you at least have the decency to find out the whole story. And NEVER take the dog. If you get caught you will get slapped with a criminal record. It doesn't matter if the dog needed help. There are organizations that will determine if the dog needs help. It is not for you to determine. There was a highly publicised case in BC where a group of self proclaimed animal rights activists went around taking dogs from people who they felt weren't giving them proper care. Well, in 99% of the cases once the whole story was brought to TV the group was completely wrong. It turns out they were removing dogs from perfectly good and caring homes. In one case it looked like the dog was left in the hot sun but it was shown that it had a doggy door not visible to anyone looking into the yard so it could get inside anytime. It choose to stay out most of the time. When several people were caught for stealing the dogs they were fined and they themselves are banned from owning animals for a said amount of time since they have committed crimes against animals.

PS It is not against the law to leave a dog outside as long as it has food and water and shelter. But you aren't even positive that the dog does or doesn't have water??? Don't be a bleeding heart. Stay out of it and stop being nosey. You don't even have the guts to confront them. Unless the dog is visibly suffering and dying you have no business medelling.

  6. go ahead and report them, especially if she doesn't have a dish of water near her, but don't let them know you are reporting them.

  7. If like you said, there is no adequate shleter or shade for her, and they don't provide her with water, you have a case here. Also, the harness being that tight can result in it getting embedded underneath the skin which will obviously be very painful for the dog. Call your local SPCA or animal control officers, they are the only ones that will do something about this. They may sieze the dog, who knows, the people might not even want it. Its great you care about this dog and you are getting it some help. Good luck.

  8. Well the law in most places says you have to provide food, water, and shelter for a dog, but it doesn't say you have to love it.  You could call the police, but if they did take the dog, the owners would probably get it back by the end of the day.

  9. When I came upon a situation similar to that I took it into my hands. I went to the owners when I knew they were home and offered to take the dog of their hands, fortunatley for the dog they said yes they actually seemed very thankful that I took the dog. Maybe you could try that. Let me know what happens.
