  1. Tredmills are an excellent way to get the exersice you need if she can't be active. Definalty get her one or better yet consider joining a gym where they have a personal trainer to give her a program she can use. Try and get a medically based fitness center and stay clear of gold's and LA fitness like centers

  2. Yeah definately I do 40min everyday on the treadmill walking & jogging and I'm more toned and lost alot of fat. If your sister said they didn't help its probably because she wasn't exercising hard and long enough to get her heart pumping or her diet wasn't healthy enough.

  3. try trampoline.my fitness guide swears by ityou get mini foldable ones too.  (Check the reboundair site)  15 min (or 5 min of sprinting) on a tramp = 30 min on a treadmill. + a whole lot of other benefits too.http://ezinearticles.com/?Trampoline-As-...

  4. Of course they work! She probably didn't work hard enough!

  5. yes treadmills work but if you are trying to lose weight you should do other exercises not just running on the tread mill and for teenagers i would recommend that you use slim kids for her it is a really great program so you should probably tell  your daughter if she wants to lose weight to do other exercises to

  6. thatsss bull about the va homeschooled kids

    because

i live in NC and i go to VA all the time, because you guys let out of school later than us, and i always go to the mall or something there & no officer or nothing ever says anything to me.

    just saying

she should atleast walk/run for a while.

  7. It's not the treadmill, it's what you do on it...walking, jogging, running.  Cardio, that's the key.  But you have to eat right AND perform cardio to have consistent, sustainable weight loss.  Every person has different body chemistry, so the extent of how much it will work varies for each person.  The good thing about a treadmill is that it is usually less impact on the joints and you are less likely to twist an ankle on a rock or get hit by a passing car.

  8. I've lost 50 lbs from running on my treadmill for 30 min a day 4 days a week.  th

  9. it depends on how much you use it and what you are eating? if u are eating more calories than you are burning off on the treadmill then no... but if you are eating less calories than you are burning throughout the day including the treadmill then you should loose weight, it's always good to do a variety of different exercises though!

Why doesn't she leave the house and go for a jog in the day - you'd save the money you'd spend on the treadmill and in my opinion it doesn't sound very healthy to be house bound all day and night?

  10. You may have bought a treadmill and then quickly got bored; or maybe you haven't seen the results you were expecting. In both instances, the problem isn’t the treadmill. The problem is understanding treadmill exercise und staying motivated.

  11. Running on a treadmill is as effective as running outside for weightloss.  But it's pretty dull!  Could she run outside once regular school hours are done?  Are there some other homeschooled kids nearby who could make up a supervised group for exercising (don't know if a supervised group of homeschoolers is allowed out during Va school hours).  She's going to be pretty isolated all day every day....

  12. Treadmills don't cause you lose weight, but *exercising* on them will. Your sister probably wasn't using hers regularly, which means that she wasn't exercising regularly. It's not the treadmill that is the determining factor here; it's the way in which it is used (or not used). Regular exercise (whether on a treadmill or something else) combined with a healthy diet will help someone lose weight.

The problem with treadmills and other equipment in the home is that people tend to buy them and then not use them. At 15, I would be doubtful that your daughter will stick to a rigorous routine on the treadmill.

She would probably benefit more from something that's a little more fun like fitness videos or jumping on a mini trampoline while watching television (if you have room). Is there any possibility of her going for walks or bike rides outside? The more she enjoys something, the more likely it'll be that she'll stick to it.

Lastly, 15 is a tricky age. Before she starts any kind of exercise or diet plan, sit down and have a serious talk with her about her goals for this plan. You want her to be healthy and happy, not just skinny, right? If you see a lot of the questions asked on here by 15-year-olds, you might get a better understanding of what I'm talking about. A lot of teens have a distorted view of their bodies. They think that having their bones protruding is a good thing. Be sure that your daughter is doing this for the right reasons. I would recommend that you work this fitness routine into her homeschooling curriculum. That way, the two of you will regularly discuss it and the emphasis will be on health, not appearance.
