Yes besides the players CFL gets from the NCAA and NFL I was wondering if the colleges in Canada where a major source of talent.

Also do players come straight from High School or is there an age limit?

  1. Yes, CIS teams can offer scholarships, though there is quite a philosophical difference between eastern and western teams. A few years ago, there were even rumours that the league might subdivide into two mini-leagues, one offering big scholarships (in the west), and a league of eastern teams that were far more conservative in offering scholarships.

In Western Canada, the best teams for producing CFL players are the Universities of Manitoba, Regina, Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC, plus Simon Fraser University. In the east, notable teams are Ottawa U., McGill, Laval, Bishop's, Acadia, St. Marys and St. Francis Xavier. Can't forget about the universities of Western Ontario, Waterloo and Queen's U.
